Roundup: Shawnee wins WBL boys tennis first-place battle against Ottawa-Glandorf

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — The host Indians moved into first place alone in the Western Buckeye League boys tennis standings with a 3-2 victory Thursday against Ottawa-Glandorf.

Singles players Michael Rutter, Isaac Hanover and Justin Schaaf won for Shawnee. The doubles teams of Zach Balbaugh and Drew Kuhlman and Ben Schaub and Colin Welch won for O-G.

Both teams are 9-2 overall with the Indians now 7-0 in the WBL and the Titans 6-1 in league matches.

Lima Senior 0

LIMA — Singles players Ben Brinkman, Mark Janowski and Matthew Cecala and the doubles teams of Jake Evans and Colin Guagenti and Aaron Simmons and Brady Koening all won matches.

Wapakoneta 4, Bluffton 1

WAPAKONETA — Singles players Jordan Moening and Curtis Hughes and the doubles teams of David Haver and John Doll and Austin Hancock and Jesse Mackenzie won for Wapak. Justin Haggard won for Bluffton.

Van Wert 3, Defiance 2

VAN WERT — Singles players Michael Etter, Kannen Wannemacher and Michael Hellman won matches for Van Wert.

St. Marys 4, Elida 1

Singles players Marcel Lansing, Howie Spencer and Curtis Vanderhorst and the doubles team of Andrew Vogel and Mason King won for St. Marys. The doubles team of Riley Creps and Jacob Ramirez won for Elida.

KALIDA — Josh Klausing allowed no hits and four walks while striking out 12 in seven innings. Gabe Hovest had three its and three RBI, Kevin Hamburg had two hits and an RBI and Klausing had two hits.

Spencerville 19, Ada 8

ADA — Drake Mertz had four hits and Hunter Stephen doubled, singled and had two RBI and Logan Rex had a hit and two RBI for the visiting Bearcats. Aaron Everhart had three hits, including a double and Austin Amburgey had a double and two RBI for Ada.

Marion Local 1

DELPHOS — Winning pitcher Lincoln Mueller allowed no earned runs, two hits and a walk while striking out 10 in seven innings. Corey Koverman had a double, a single and an RBI and Chandler Skym had a double and a single for St. John’s. Matt Mueller and Ian Kramer had Marion Local’s hits.

GLANDORF — Don Goodes had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI and Bubba Miller had two hits and an RBI for Wapak. Austin Horstman had two hits and Ethan White doubled for O-G.

ST. MARYS — Winning pitcher Braeden Dunlap allowed seven hits and 2 walks while striking out four in seven innings. Austin Wilker had three hits, Trey Fisher and Ty Howell each had two hits and an RBI and Clay Quellhorst had two RBI for the host Roughriders. Matt Fish had three hits and Noah Adcock had two hits for Elida.

NEW KNOXVILLE — Winning pitcher Jack Heitbrink allowed one hits and four walks while striking out six in four innings. He also had two hits and three RBI. Anthony Boehnlein had a double and three RBI, Austin Shinabery had a triple, a double and two RBI, August Boehnlein had two hits and two RBI, Isaac Schmiesing had two hits and an RBI, Alex Lehmkuhl had a double and two RBI and Owen Dorsten had a hit and three RBI. Nathan Tinnerman doubled for New Knoxville.

ST. HENRY — Winning pitcher Daylon Lange allowed no earned runs, seven hits and a walk while striking out four. Ryan Luttmer and Jay Knapke each had three hits for the host Redskins.

Columbus Grove 5

DELPHOS — Darius Shurelds knocked in the winning run with a one-out hit in the eighth inning after the host Wildcats scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Connor Anspach had two hits and two RBI and Shurelds had two hits and RBI for Jefferson. Brady Hauenstein had two doubles and an RBI and Nick Wood had two hits and an RBI for Grove.

Van Wert 8, LCC 2

LIMA — Winning pitcher Holden Willingham allowed five hits, one earned run and two walks while striking out five in seven innings. TJ Reynolds had three hits and two RBI and Hayden Maples had two hits and two RBI for Van Wert. Matthew Heider had two hits and Derek Jennings doubled for LCC.

Ottoville 7, Continental 2

OTTOVILLE — Winning pitcher Josh Thorbahn allowed no runs, two hits and four walks while striking out nine. Zane Martin had two hits and an RBI and Dylan Kemper had a double and two RBI for the host Big Green. Payton Weller had a double and two RBI for Continental.

Allen East 12, Bluffton 2

HARROD — Winning pitcher Devin Reed allowed three hits and two walks while striking out seven in five innings. Reed also had two hits and an RBI. Spencer had four hits two RBI and two stolen bases, Ben Lawrence had three hits and three RBI, and Dalton Clum had a hit and two RBI also for Allen East.

Paulding 8, Hilltop 7

WEST UNITY — The Panthers plated the game-winner in the top of the ninth. Cole Heller had three hits and two RBI and Westen Phlipot had two hits and an RBI for Paulding.
