Ottawa angler makes bass nationals

For the second successive year, Kyle Weisenburger has qualified for a trip to the All-American national tourney. The Ottawa bass angler qualified by finishing fifth Saturday at the Barren River Regional of the T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) in Scottsville, Kentucky.

Weisenburger caught three bass Saturday which weighed 6-8 pounds and that vaulted him from eighth to fifth place. The top six finishers in the regional qualify for the All-American. He caught 11 keeper bass over three days. They weighed 25 pounds, 11 ounces.

Dick Shaffer, of Rockford, came up short in his attempt to qualify for another All-American. He caught two bass Saturday that weighed 4 pounds, 12 ounces. Shaffer’s final weight was 24 pounds, 11 ounces good for eighth place.

Both area anglers qualified for the final day by finishing in the top 12 through two days of the tourney.

On the co-angler side, Jon Angstmann, of St. Marys, qualified for the final day, but failed to catch a keeper bass and wound up with five bass that weighed 10 pounds, 7 ounces.
