ARCHERY

Allen County Archers

The Allen County Archers, at the corner of state Route 117 and Defiance Trail, have monthly shoots planned. A traditional shoot is held the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Two day shooting events will be held the first Saturday and Sunday of every month through September. BASKETBALL

The Best of the Best Basketball Fall League will run from Sept. 10 to Oct. 15 with fourth grade through high school divisions. All games will be played Sunday evenings at Tiffin University and other colleges and high schools in Seneca County. To register and for more information go to www.bestbasketball.net/fall-league

CYCLING

Putnam County

The Putnam County Y will once again host the Tour de Putnam on Aug. 26. The ride will include a 25, 50, 75 and 100 mile route to choose from. The tour begins and ends at the PCY — Where the County comes together. The Tour de Putnam will travel through several towns within Putnam County, including Leipsic, Miller City, Kalida, Ottoville, Vaughnsville, Pandora and Gilboa, with plenty of rest stops along the way; fully stocked with snacks and beverages. The routes will be clearly marked, and SAG/Support vehicles will be driving the routes to assist riders in need. All riders must wear a helmet and T-shirts included with your registration while supplies last. Register for this annual event at the Putnam County YMCA, located at 101 Putnam Parkway in Ottawa or online at putnamymca.org under the programs tab. All riders must be in route by 9 a.m. while the 100 milers must be in route by 8 a.m. Come join more than 100 bicyclists on great country roads. FOOTBALL

Lima

Lima Senior will begin holding Spartan Football Socials with Coach Andre Griffin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at The Met in downtown Lima.

The socials will be held each Monday at the same time and place throughout this year’s season. The socials replace the football lunches held in previous years.

Coach Griffin will discuss the upcoming season at the first meeting. The Spartans travel to Middletown the following Friday to kick off the 2017 season.

Wapakoneta

The Wapakoneta football program is playing host to the first football weekend Aug. 24-25. The two-day event will include guest speaker Tim Burke, class of 1975, on Thursday with a team dinner. Registration and payment for Thursday’s event is Friday, Aug. 18. The fee is $30. On Friday, prior to the home opener against Bellefontaine alumni will be recognized and tickets to the game will be $6 with a football alumni social after the game at the Eagles.

GOLF

Lima

The National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice Lima Affiliate presents the 10th annual Bonita L. Haynes Golf scramble at Tamarac Golf Course at 9 a.m. Aug. 26. The format is a four person best ball scramble format. The registration fee is $70 for individuals and $280 for teams. The deadline for registration is Aug. 19. North Baltimore

The Challenged Champions Equestrian Center Inc. is playing host to its annual golf outing Aug. 26. This will be at the Birch Run Golf Club in North Baltimore. It is $50 per golfer, and there will be a first-place team prize, individual contests on every hole, and a chance to win $1,500 for a putt made from 50 feet. Sponsorships and donations for door prizes are being accepted.

Bellefontaine

PICKLEBALL

Lima

Pickleball is played at Bradfield Center from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. All skill levels are welcome.

Lima

The Lima YMCA is holding open pickleball play from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday (appointment only). Free for YMCA members and $3 per visit for nonmembers or $20 per month for non members (unlimited play). Individuals can register online at limaymca.net.

RUNNING

Lima

The first Allan Nott 5K Family Fun Run will be held at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 13 at Allan Nott Honda Toyota, 3500 Elida Road, Lima. Registration fee is a $20 donation to Relay for Life for adults and $5 for those ages 12 and younger. All proceeds benefit Relay for Life of Lima.

Spencerville

The 41st annual Spencerville All-Comers Cross Country Meet will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Spencerville High School on a flat grass course. There is a $2 entry fee. Races include a 1-miler for those 13 & younger and and 5k for all ages. Entry forms available online at spencervillerunning.com. Delphos

The annual Delphos Canal Days 5K run/walk will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 17. The race will begin at the intersection of Main Street and Second Street with a new course down Canal Street. Race forms are available at Delphoscanaldays.com or on-line registration at Run Sign Up using search word Delphos. Cost is $25 with shirt if pre-registered by Sept 4 or $20 with no shirt. Race day registration available for $25 with no shirt guarantee. Awards to top runners in each age bracket. This is also the third and final race of the Delphos Running Series. Kalida

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Kalida Lions Clup presents the second annual “Running with the Law” sprint triathlon and 5k race taking place at Four Seasons Park in Kalida at 10 a.m. Aug. 19. Lima Sabres

SOFTBALL

Lima

The 16U Buckeye Blaze will be holding tryouts on today and Sept. 2 at Lima Senior Girls Softball diamond for the 2018 travel team. Times for both dates are 10 a.m. to noon. If you feel you are one of the best players in this area then you need to be at one of these dates. The primary focal point is a strong pitching rotation.
