Wapakoneta Waves win combined, boys swim titles

KENTON — The Wapakoneta Waves won the combined and boys team titles Saturday at the 36th annual Elk’s Invitational Swim Meet/Western Ohio Aquatic League Championships held at the Kenton Municipal Swimming Pool.

The Waves finished with 3,139.5 combined points followed by Westside Swim & Racket Club (3,127.5) in the eight-team event. The Wave boys had 1,714 with Westside finishing second (1,325.5). Westside won the girls team crown with 1,802 points. The Waves were second (1,425.5).

The Waves’ Caitlyn Rostorfer won the Girls 11-12 50 meter backstroke and breaststroke and the 100 freestyle. Nate Metzger won the Boys 13-14 50 backstroke and breaststroke and Ross Honigford (Boys 9-10), Alex Honigford (Boys 11-12) and Elizabeth Gesler (Girls 13-14) all won the 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke in their respective age groups for the Waves. Shawnee’s Cece Schaaf won the Girls 8 and Younger 50 freestyle and 25 breaststroke. Westside’s Luke Marshall finished first in the Boys 8 & Younger 50 freestyle and 25 breaststroke. Taylor Hudson won the Girls 9-10 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke also for Westside.

Locos 2, Scouts 1

XENIA — A solo home run by Ross Adolph (Toledo) in the seventh inning proved to be the difference as the Lima Locos improved to 24-6 on the season. The Scouts fell to 14-15.

Winning pitcher Cole Baker (Marshalltown Community College) threw seven innings, allowing one run, five hits and two walks while striking out four. Joe Gahm (Auburn) then threw two shutout innings, allowing a hit and no walks while striking out two to get the save.

Lima tied the game in the fifth inning when a single by Jaxxon Fagg (Yavapai) knocked in Jack Barrie (UNOH) from third base. Barrie opened the inning with a single and got to third on a pair of putouts.
