Locos smack 5 homers in victory

GALION — Four different Lima Locos hit a total of five home runs in a 12-8 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League victory Wednesday night against the host Graders.

Jack Barrie (UNOH) had two homers and Garrett Hodges (Kennesaw State), Will Kilgore (Georgia State) and Josh Wooten (Cincinnati) hit one each for Lima (21-6). Hodges finished with four hits and four RBI, Barrie had two hits and three RBI and Kilgore also doubled and had three RBI. Jeddediah Fagg (Yavapai) had a base hit and a double and Tyler Tolbert (UAB) had two hits also for the Locos.

Lima broke the game open with six runs in the top of the eighth for a 12-5 advantage.

Winning pitcher Zach Graveno (Mercer) threw five innings, allowing two runs, five hits and three walks while striking out two.

Lima will next play host to Licking County at 7:05 tonight at Simmons Field.

ACME tourney

Minster and Northmont became the final two teams to qualify for this weekend’s state tournament at Shawnee High School.

Minster defeated St. Henry 12-9 for the District 4 crown and Northmont topped Versailles 12-4 for the District 7 championships.

Minster and Northmont will open the single-elimination state tournament at noon Saturday followed by Defiance and Crestview, Archbold and Anthony Wayne and Xenia and host Shawnee.
