Limaland welcomes Kenny Wallace, F.A.S.T. 305 Sprints

LIMA — Racing fans are gearing up for what appears to be an exciting night of racing. The F.A.S.T. 305 Sprints invade Limaland for Fast Friday with Kenny Wallace — Presented by: Fritchie Asphalt, on Friday night at Limaland Motorsports Park. The pit gate opens at 4:30 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.

Limaland Competitions Director Gene Frankart played a significant role in getting the F.A.S.T. 305 Sprints to Limaland.

“Years ago I worked at Attica (Raceway Park) and we often found a lot of car parts to be obsolete,” Frankart said. “There were some with no power steering, the top of the wings couldn’t have a slider on top. These cars have a 305 motor and it’s a cheaper way to do it (racing). It has the same setup as a 360 or a 410, it just has a 305 motor in it. You could actually put a 410 motor in it and go racing. Often times a 410 racecar has $40,000-$60,000 wrapped up in it while a 305 might only be $15,000-$20,000.”

The popularity of this division has seemed to be growing rapidly.

“It’s really taken off,” Frankart said. “We could have up to 35 cars on a race night. That makes it a more competitive race now. These guys who’ve been to Limaland before love the track.”

The biggest difference in the 305 Sprints is that they won’t go as fast as the 410 Sprints because of the size of the motor.

“They’re slower than the 410s because they have a less cubic inch motor,” Frankart said. “When you have a whole show of them at once you don’t notice that they’re slower though because they’re that good. They are fast around the track. We’re in for some good racing (Friday night) and it should be a good show.”

Frankart, who is in his 13th year at Limaland, gets great satisfaction from putting on a great show and making sure the track is in top shape.

“It’s a cool deal when racers love the track and the fans love the track,” Frankart said. “I like the tracks to be heavy because I like it fast.”
