Locos secure victory in 12th inning

NEWARK — Stephen Dobbs (Alabama-Birmingham) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 12th inning to give the Lima Locos a 5-4 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League victory Tuesday night against Licking County.

Ethan Hurt (Trevecca Nazarine) had two hits and Will Kilgore (Georgia State) had a hit and two RBI for Lima. Ryan Bramlett (Eastern Kentucky) got the win, allowing no runs, two hits and a walk while striking out two in two innings of relief. Lima and Licking County will play against at 7:05 tonight in Newark.

Also on Tuesday, former Lima Locos pitcher Robby Howell from Central Florida was drafted in the 10th round by the Cincinnati Reds.

shoots 70

LIMA — Jill Schmitmeyer shot a 2-under 70 for the low round of the day, winning the girls 16-18 title at Tuesday’s Heartlight Pharmacy Open at the Oaks Golf Club as part of the Lima Junior Golf Association – McDonald’s Junior Series.

Erm Mulcahy defeated Madilyn Paphanchith in a playoff for second after each shot 83.

Aaron Belcher won a playoff against Sam Reed and Joshah Rager to win the boys 16-18 crown after each shot 75. Reed defeated Rager for second.

Carson Harmon was the boys 14-15 winner with an 83. Britton Hall was second, finishing with an 86.

Troy Watson shot a 2-over 38 to win the boys 12-13 nine-hole event with Parker Judy (40) coming in second. Ellen Naumann (40) was the girls 15 and younger victor. Eva Bolin (46) was second. Damon Watson (35) was the peewee (11 and younger) winner with Connor Nartker (41) finishing second.

team to be honored

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — The Shawnee Athletic Department will be inducting the 1966 undefeated Shawnee football team into the school’s hall of fame Sept. 8.

Players from that team are asked to contact the Shawnee Athletic Department at 419-998-8014 to help with the event planning.
