LIMA – Wishin Iwas Fishin took first place in the Allen County Super Trot Signature Series race to cap off the day of harness racing at at the Allen County Fairgrounds Wednesday night.
As the final race, the Super Trot race closed out the 35th Annual Superstakes harness racing held at the Allen County Fair.
The Super Trot, which was established more than two decades ago by Harold Breidenbaugh and Jim Chapman, featured horses more than 4-years-old in the one-mile trot event. The purse for the race was $4,700,
Driver Scott Cisco guided Wishin Iwas Fishin to a first place performance with a time of 2:01. Herbie L. finished second and Speed Hanover was third.
In the race, Wishin Iwas Fishin, owned by Rocky Stidham, jumped out to a quick lead and gained a two length advantage after the first lap around the track. Despite being challenged at the first and second turns after passing the halfway point, Wishin Iwas Fishin never relinquished the lead to capture the race.
“He kind of grabbed the lead pretty quickly going into the first gate and kind of cruised along like an old Cadillac,” Cisco said. “He was doing all the work and I was just managing him and making sure he hit the right fractions and he didn’t get too wound up. He stayed really relaxed and poised and came home like a true champion.”
