BASEBALL

Bluffton

The Northwest Ohio Bullfrogs travel team will be holding tryouts for there 12U and 13U teams for the spring/summer 2016 season. Tryouts will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Village Park in Bluffton. Attendance at both tryouts is encouraged but not required. Glandorf

Glandorf will be playing host to the first annual “Glandorf Park Classic” youth tournament Sept. 5-6. There will be 10U and 12U divisions (age cutoff is July 1). Cost per team is $200 with a three-game guarantee. Awards will be given to first and second place teams in each division. Findlay

The University of Findlay baseball program will hold a Home Run Derby at 5 p.m. Oct. 2 on Fifth Third Field. The derby will also have targets place throughout the field, which will be marked with prize amounts. Everyone is invited to join the Oilers and take a crack at bashing some ball over the fence. BASKETBALL

Wapakoneta

Wapakoneta is playing host to a fall league on Sundays for girls entering grades 6-12. Players will be placed on the teams and play two games each day. League will start Sept. 27 and end Oct. 18. This a just play league with no coaching. Cost is $50. Registration deadline is Sept. 1 and space is limited. Lima

A fall league for boys in grades five through 12 will be held Sunday afternoons between Sept. 13 and Oct. 25 at at Lima Senior. Cost is $100 per player. Lima

FOOTBALL

Bath

Bath Parents Sports Club is accepting registrations for the flag football season for boys in K through second grade and third grade through fourth grade. Sign-ups will be available through the elementary the first week of school or Facebook. Registrations may be turned in from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.Monday, Sept. 7, and Wednesday, Sept. 9, in the middle school cafeteria. Deadline to register is Saturday, Sept 12th. Putnam County

The Putnam County YMCA is currently registering youth flag football league participants. This is a recreational program designed for youngsters new to the sport of football as well as those not quite ready for tackle football. Participants will learn how to play the sport, brush up on the rules, tactics, and skills, improve their game and have fun. This flag football league is open to those ages 5-11 years old. Fee, which includes team shirt and end of the season award, is $21 for members and $41 for non-members. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify. Lima

Registration is under way for the Lima YMCA Fall Flag League for those between the ages of 5 and 9 years old. Registration is open until Aug. 29 with games beginning Sept. 21. Ohio Northern

Ladies Night with ONU Football is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Dial-Roberson Stadium in Ada. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the clinic will be from 6:30 p.m. until 8:40 p.m. Learn more about strategy, rules, equipment, weight room and drills. This event is free though we ask that you make a voluntary donation to Crossroads Crisis Center for domestic violence during sign-in. Spartans bonfire

Lima Senior High School will kick off its home football season with a bonfire at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, on the east side of Spartan Stadium.

Community members are welcome to attend to celebrate and cheer on all Lima Senior fall athletes.

GOLF

Findlay

Open Arms and The LaRiche Family of Dealerships will be holding the 2015 Charity Golf Classic on Friday, Sept. 18. This year’s event will be held at Red Hawk Run Golf Club. Registration and breakfast begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start scheduled for 9 a.m. Proceeds from the annual golf outing will benefit Open Arms Domestic Violence & Rape Crisis Services.

Team registration is currently taking place and will be limited to 27 foursomes. The cost for registration is $360 per team or $90 per individual. Registration costs include breakfast, lunch, snacks, drink tickets, green fees, cart and door prizes.

RUNNING

Sidney

The Shelby County Historical Society (SCHS) will host its Run to the Wall 5K beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 5. The wall is the Vietnam Memorial traveling replica wall, which SCHS will exhibit in Custenborder Park, 449 Riverside Drive, from Sept. 3 through Sept. 6.

The 5K will begin in the park and at its end, runners will have a choice. They can run the last leg past the wall in order to get a true, 5K run time. Or they can slow and join the walkers to move past the wall with reverence, to touch a name that has special meaning, to reflect on the people who gave their lives not just in Vietnam, but in all of America’s wars.

Advance 5K registration is $15, $20 with a commemorative shirt at cantstoprunningco.com, on the SCHS Facebook page and at the SCHS offices in the Ross Historical Center, 201 N. Main Ave. Day-of-the-race registration will begin at 7 a.m. The fee will be $20.

Putnam County

A new running series is coming this summer. Three area festivals have partnered, along with St. Rita’s Health Partners, to create the “Putnam County Running Series.”

The Ottawa Ribfest “Join the P.A.R.T.Y. 5K “, the Glandorf Park Festival “Turtle Trot 5K”, and the Kalida Pioneer Days “Friday night 4 miler” make up the newly established series.

Those who participate in all three races you will receive a 1/4 zip jacket.

The first race was the Ottawa Ribfest Join the P.A.R.T.Y. 5K held July 18th. The second race is the Glandorf Turtle Trot 5K to be held Sept. 5 and the final race will be the Kalida Pioneer Days Friday Night 4 miler on Sept. 11. Awards will be given for those participating in all three races at the conclusion of the final race in Kalida on Sept.11.

Bluffton

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting registrations for this year’s Labor Day 5K to be held Saturday, Sept. 5.

This year’s race starts at 9 a.m. A kid’s fun run and walk is at 10 a.m. Age groups run from 14 and under to 60 and older. Runners who pre-registered by Aug. 29 pay $25 and receive a T-shirt ($20 with no T-shirt). Kids; run registration is $5.

The registration fee is $25 with no shirt after Aug. 29. Race day registration starts for the 5K at 8:30 a.m. and for the fun run at 9:30 a.m. Runners may register online at bfronline.net. For more information contact BFR at 419-358-4150.

Grand Lake

The second annual Grand Lake Marathon will be held Saturday, Sept. 26. Besides a full marathon there will be a 5K, half marathon, relay and a kids marathon.

Lima Sabres

The Lima Sabres has weekly trap shooting practice from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesdays all year round at 5090 Hanthorn Road. There is also a Tuesday night 5-Stand, beginning at 5 p.m. There is also a trap at 9 a.m. Wednesdays and Thursday Night Trap Shooting, beginning at 6 p.m. Member meetings are held at 7 p.m. the last Wednesday of the month from January through October. There are no meetings in November and December. The Rimfire Mini-Palma is held at 5:45 p.m. Mondays from Sept. 7 until Oct. 26. Upcoming special events include E.D.G.E. Junior Fun Shoot (5 p.m. Aug. 31), Lima Sabres’ annual Hog Roast (Sept. 12), Lima Sabres Presents N.R.A. Women on Target (Sept. 27), Lima Sabres Bowling Pin Match (Nov. 8). Continental

Trapshoots

There are two trapshoots coming up at the Continental Conservation Club.

The first shoot for chicken breasts is Sunday and the second competition for pork chops is Sept. 6.

Practice and still target shooting both days will be at 11:30 a.m. with the main events at 12:30 p.m.

Lunch and shells will be available. The club is one-half mile north and one-half mile east of Continental on Road E.

SOCCER

Bath

BATH TOWNSHIP — The Bath boys Kickoff Classic is set for Tuesday and Thursday at Bath.

In Tuesday’s semifinals, Paulding will play Continental at 5 p.m. Bath will meet Lima Central Catholic at 7 p.m.

The consolation game is at 5 p.m. on Thursday, while the championship game is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students.

Bluffton

Parkway High School is sponsoring a fall league for girls in grades 5 and 6. There will be a fifth-grade league and a sixth-grade league with six teams in each league.
