Leipsic’s Cupp gets offer from Ohio State

LEIPSIC — Leipsic High School offensive lineman Gavin Cupp has received a scholarship offer from Ohio State less than a week after Michigan State, the school he had verbally committed to earlier this summer, withdrew its offer to him because he attended OSU’s Friday Night Lights recruiting program.

Cupp confirmed the Ohio State offer in a text message to The Lima News on Thursday afternoon.

Cupp was second-team All-Ohio, first-team All-Northwest Ohio and first-team All-Blanchard Valley Conference in football last season and also has received all-league honors in baseball and basketball.

He had scholarship offers from Minnesota, Missouri, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Virginia, Illinois among others.

247Sports, which compiles a composite of the major scouting services rankings, lists Cupp as the No. 22 player in Ohio in the 2016 class, the No. 56 offensive tackle nationally and the No. 623 player regardless of position.
