Early outburst helps Southern Ohio take 12-5 win over Locos

CELINA — The Southern Ohio Copperheads scored five times in the top of the first inning and never looked back in a 12-5 win over the Lima Locos in a Great Lakes Collegiate League baseball game on Monday night.

The game, a home game for the Locos, was played on the artificial turf of Montgomery Field.

Southern Ohio used four hits and three walks to get its five runs in the opening inning off Locos starter Travis Edgar.

Charlie Watters was 3 for 3 and Trevor Ezell went 3 for 5 to lead a 16-hit attack by Southern Ohio (19-14).

The Locos (20-7) got a home run by Cole Gordon and Brett Murray drove in two runs.

The GLCL All-Star Game is scheduled tonight in Mason. The Locos will return to action at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday against the Galion Graders at Simmons Field.
