Bath grad Hall qualifies for national Optimist tourney

CANTON — Bath High School graduate Evan Hall qualified for the Optimist Junior International Championships in the boys 16-18 division by posting a 74 on Monday at the district qualifier Monday at the Tam O’Shanter Course.

Hall finished two strokes behind the winner.

He advances to the national tournament July 26 at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Other area golfers who competed at the district, but did not qualify were Ian Hastings from Shawnee (81); Britton Hensel from Kenton (83) and Josiah Rager from Lincolnview, who did not finish because of an injury. Jared Hernandez of Van Wert missed qualifying in the boys 14-15 division by one shot by shooting an 82.

Junior tourneys postponed

The recent large amount of rain has led to the postponement of two Lima Junior Golf Association McDonald’s Junior Series events. The tournament scheduled for June 16 at Oaks Golf Club has been rescheduled for Friday, June 26. The makeup date for the event scheduled for Thursday, June 18, at Fox’s Den in Celina has not been announced.

Ohio Mid Amateur round 1 done

PERRYSBURG — Jeff Scohy of Bellbrook shot a 68 to hold a single shot lead over Bill Williamson of Cincinnati after the first round of the Ohio Mid Amateur Championship at Belmont Country Club. Adam Koester of Ottoville opened with a 76, Lima’s Matthew Akers had a 78, Scott Geier of Lima had an 82 and Phillip Trueblood of Lima had an 83.
