Some extra exposure for LeBron

NEW YORK — His team getting clobbered in the NBA Finals and his head bloodied in a collision with a camera was bad enough for LeBron James. Now he’s trapped in the endless online loop of the moment he got caught with his pants down on national television.

James’ wardrobe adjustment — briefly lowering his compression pants in the moments before his Cleveland Cavaliers took on the Golden State Warriors Thursday — was another example of television not moving fast enough to stop a moment best left off the air.

The moment flashed by so quickly, with James’ body partially obscured by an onscreen graphic, that many viewers probably missed it in real time.

The Federal Communications Commission would not comment Friday on whether anyone had formally complained about James’ unexpected exposure.

ABC Sports would not comment on James’ extra exposure.

Royals place pitcher Jason Vargas on DL

ST. LOUIS — The Kansas City Royals placed a starting pitcher on the 15-day disabled list, but not the one many had been expecting.

The move with lefty Jason Vargas, who has a strained left forearm, is backdated to June 9. Manager Ned Yost is hopeful Yordano Ventura, who was removed because of right hand weakness Friday night, can make his next start.

Yost believes the injuries might be caused by the pitchers batting in interleague games, putting stress on the forearm.

Chris Young will move up a day and start in place of Vargas in the series finale Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Joe Blanton, who worked 2 2-3 scoreless innings after Ventura was lifted Friday, is the likely starter Tuesday at Milwaukee.

Vargas (5-2), who underwent an MRI exam Friday that showed inflammation, lasted only a half-dozen pitches in a side session.

Houston’s Altuve out with hamstring injury

HOUSTON — Houston Astros All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve is out of the lineup with a hamstring injury on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners.

Altuve was injured trying to beat the throw on a grounder in the first inning on Friday night. He has a strained right hamstring and is listed as day to day.

He says he feels better Saturday than he did Friday night and doesn’t think the injury is serious. He hopes a few days rest and treatment will help him get back on the field.

Altuve, who won the batting title last season, is hitting .290 with five homers and 27 RBIs for the first-place Astros.
