Ex-Bath boys hoops coach nominated for Wapak opening

WAPAKONETA — Former Bath boys varsity basketball coach Doug Davis has been recommended to fill the same position at Wapakoneta.

Wapak Athletic Director Brad Rex made the announcement in an email Friday with the school board scheduled to vote on Davis’ nomination at its June 23 meeting.

Davis resigned from Bath in 2014 after serving as the Wildcats’ coach for 10 seasons, going 109-116 overall.

His exit came after back-to-back trips to regional championship games by the Wildcats. In Davis’ last season, Bath won 21 games and lost to eventual Division II state champion Norwalk. In 2012-13, the Wildcats won 23 games and lost to Columbus Watterson, which went on to win the state championship. Those were the only years the Wildcats won district championships in boys basketball. In 2013, Bath won its first Western Buckeye League title in boys hoops since 1970.

Davis was head coach at Delphos Jefferson for five years before coming to Bath and started his career at Lima Senior, where he coached 12 seasons, five of them as the boys JV coach.

Davis had been among those interviewed for the Lima Senior coaching position that went to Quincey Simpson in 2014.
