Fort Recovery eliminated from state baseball tourney

COLUMBUS — Newark Catholic defeated Fort Recovery 4-0 Thursday in the Division IV state baseball semifinals at Huntington Park.

Jackson Hobbs and Nathan Lochtefeld had two hits each for Fort Recovery (25-6). Mitch Stammen, Derek Backs, Ben Will and Chase Bruns each had a hit also for Fort Recovery. Newark Catholic (21-11) will play Berlin Center Western Reserve (24-5), a 5-2 winner against Hicksville, for the state championship at 1 p.m. Saturday at Huntington Park.

Limaland racing

LIMA — Limaland Motorsports Park returns to action tonight with the Open Wheel Shootout, featuring the visiting BOSS Wingless Sprints. Also the K & L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invaders and the K & M UMP Modifieds will compete. Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m.

Waynesfield Raceway

WAYNESFIELD — June will see three big tune-up races at Waynesfield Raceway Park leading into the Bob Reynolds Memorial, return of the BOSS non-wing sprint cars, and the Jack Hewitt Classic in July.

The first of these tune-up events takes place Saturday with Meet The Drivers Night presented by Quest Federal Credit Union. The USAC HPD Midgets will make their first ever appearance at Waynesfield. The drivers of the United States Auto Club will have their hands full as the Waynesfield locals will join in with the AMSA Mini Sprints going wingless. The Block Insurance Tough Trucks join Saturday’s program for a 28 lap tribute to fellow competitor Larry Fox. The race will pay $280 to the winner. All spectators in attendance are encouraged to wear blue in honor of Larry. The Buckeye Machine Non Wings, Post Agri Service UMP Modifieds, and Indian Lake Outfitter Compacts round out the night of racing. Adult general admission is $12. Children ages 11-15 are $6 with everyone under the age of 10 getting in free Pit passes are available for $25. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., grandstands at 5 p.m., hot laps get underway at 6 p.m. with racing following at 7 p.m.

The Mini Sprint vs. USAC Midget event is a non-points race. USAC drivers are to follow USAC Midget rules. Waynesfield Mini Sprints are to follow AMSA rules minus wing and weight limit regulations.

Trapshoot

There will be a trapshoot Sunday at the Continental Conservation Club located a half mile north and a half mile east of Continental on Road E.

Competitors will be shooting for boneless pork loins and boneless arm roast. Practice and still target shooting will start at 11:30 a.m. with the main event at 12:30 p.m. Lunch and shells will be available.

Buckeye Bash

Former Ohio State players Anthony Schlegel and Bobby Carpenter will be the featured speakers at the Buckeye Bash at 6 p.m. June 24 at Buffalo Wild Wings, 442 Fortman Drive, St. Marys.

Tickets for the St. Marys Tailgate for Cancer fundraiser include an all-you-can-eat buffer dinner and are $40 for the dining room and $25 for patio dining. Other surprise Buckeye visitors are expected.
