Spencerville hires Zerbe as middle school principal

SPENCERVILLE — Spencerville schools hired John Zerbe as its next middle school principal.

Zerbe spent 12 years at Spencerville schools as a teacher, coach and athletic director. He briefly left the district to become assistant principal of St. Marys Memorial High School in 2021, returning the following school year to teach fourth grade at Spencerville.

Zerbe most recently served as assistant elementary principal for Elida schools.

He succeeds John Edinger, who will become a teacher and assistant principal at the West Central Learning Academy.

“We are excited to have Mr. Zerbe return to Spencerville,” Superintendent Brian Woods said in a press release. “John left to gain valuable administrative experience, and those moves paid off as he stood out among the other candidates with his knowledge and experience.

“He is a strong instructional leader, and he has the unique ability to create a positive school environment while setting high expectations. He also has a wide range of teaching experiences, having taught (English language arts), social studies, math and computer science. This experience will be valuable in leading our staff.”

The school board approved Zerbe’s hiring on Tuesday.
