Birding outing to Magee Marsh is planned

LIMA — The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park district has partnered with the Tri Moraine Audubon Society for a field trip to Magee Marsh on the shores of Lake Erie, widely regarded as one of the hottest birding locations in the world.

A caravan will depart from the McElroy Environmental Education Center, 2355 Ada Road, Lima, at 6:30 a.m. Monday, May 13.

May is the peak migration for songbirds, and the birding trip will start at the boardwalk at Magee Marsh and potentially will include the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. Participants are free to stay as long as they like. Appropriate clothing and footwear, binoculars, sun protection, lunch/snacks/beverages and field guides are recommended. Experienced and beginning birders are welcome.

Register by May 10 online at www.jampd.com or by calling 419-221-1232.
