Lima announces launch of Brownfield Assessment Program

LIMA — Mayor Sharetta Smith announced the launch of the city’s Brownfield Assessment Program on Wednesday, with workforce and small business development coordinator Amber Martin.

The Environmental Protection Agency announced a $500,000 award to the city in May 2023 for brownfield revitalization projects for inventory creation, planning environmental assessment and community outreach in relation to brownfield sites.

The city said the program will determine if sites have historic use impacts and what support they might need for cleanup and redevelopment.

Participating in the program is voluntary and open to any landowner with property in the city.
