Wildlife tour of Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area planned

LIMA — A field trip geared toward birders and naturalists will be offered by the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District on Saturday, March 23.

A caravan will depart on that day at 9 a.m. from at the McElroy Environmental Education Center, 2355 Ada Road, Lima, and participants will join a naturalist and the Tri-Moraine Audubon Society to explore some of the 8,000 acres of wetlands, prairies and woodlots at Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area. The trip will consist mostly of driving between points of interest.

Participants should prepare for the weather and pack a lunch. A limited number of binoculars and field guides will be provided. The group will meet at the Killdeer upground reservoir at 10 a.m. Visitors may stay as long as they like. Experienced and beginning birders welcome.
