ABLE names Messam as new director

TOLEDO — Makiedah Messam is the new executive director of the Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, a nonprofit law firm in Northwest and West Central Ohio.

Messam previously worked as the interim executive director of the city of Cincinnati’s citizen complaint authority and as director of the Independent Commission of Investigations in Jamaica, according to a press release about her appointment.

Messam earned her juris doctorate from the University of Cincinnati and a practice certificate from the University of the West Indies.

“(Messam) will bring leadership experience and excellent communication skills to the organization,” Cassandra Rice, ABLE Board of Trustees president, said in the release. “An executive director’s role is to envision an ambitious future and lead our advocates into that future with strength and stability. I am confident that with Messam at the helm, ABLE is in great hands.”
