Construction set to begin on Central Avenue

LIMA — The Downtown Streetscape project designed to give the city’s downtown a facelift, will soon enter its second phase.

The first portion of the project (changes made to the 100 block of Spring Street) will soon be complete. According to Lima City Engineer Ian Kohli, the streetscape will enter into Phase II of the project in July. The set cost of the project is $4.3 million. Funding was provided through an ODOT grant, Federal monies, CMAC and a 20% local match from the city.

“The Central Avenue streetscape project is going to be on Central Avenue from Elm Street to Main Street,” Kohli said. “The project is focused on installing new sidewalks, curb and gutter, pedestrian-friendly features and new street lighting.”

Kohli also said the street will be ‘converted’ to one lane with a bike lane and angled parking. Once it begins, the project will take around 12 months to complete.
