Auto review: 2023 Genesis G80 gets electrified

As upscale brand, Genesis still tries to squeeze as much out of the review pie as possible, as they deliver to Grasso’s Garage their Electrified G80 AWD.

Back in 2021, we reviewed the G80 and were very impressed with the overall stature, aesthetics and comfort while noting a price tag “cheaper than the rest.” Well, well, well, some good things never change. Our G80 Electrified AWD tester was wrapped in Capri Blue paint, which displayed well, while other aesthetics typical of EVs were noticeable.

Powering the Electrified G80, a 136 kW front and rear motor with a 87.2 kWh battery which boasts a zero-to-sixty in just over 4 seconds. As in most EVs, the pickup was great and the car was very quiet. We traveled 303 miles on a full charge, in comparison to the advertised 282, so that was better than expected. Clearly, depending on what interior items you use, such as heat, A/C and so forth, range can vary slightly.

On the inside, the G80 has all the luxury you can imagine, including massaging front seats, a nicely sized and easy-to-use 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a three-zone climate control. A Lexicon Premium Audio system is also present, and like other Genesis models, was very nice and concert-like for 80’s best hits people like myself.

The Electrified G80 checks a lot of boxes. Hyundai delivers great vehicles to consumers that look good on the road, with great warranties and vehicles. Add the luxury of Genesis to that existing success, and what more could you want from a vehicle?
