More than 500 professionals volunteer to offer free dental care, flu and COVID-19 vaccines

CLEVELAND, Ohio — For the fifth consecutive year, Medworks, a nonprofit organization that serves Northeast Ohio’s medically uninsured will host a two-day dental clinic, staffed by volunteer dental professionals.

More than 500 volunteer dental professionals will provide screenings, cleanings, fillings and extractions for adults, and screenings, cleanings and sealants for children.

In addition to the dental services the clinic also will offer a number of other medical services as well.

This includes free flu and COVID vaccines, HIV testing, mental health services, hearing exams and free hearing aids to eligible seniors.

An on-site resource fair will offer patients access to community resources, free prescription medications, fresh fruit and vegetables and more. In addition, members of the Medworks navigation team will be available to connect and guide each patient with needed safety net services.

All services are free and open to the public. No appointments are necessary. Patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 7 a.m. and the clinic will close each day after all appointment slots have been filled.

The clinic will be held Friday, Nov. 17 and Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Huntington Convention Center, 300 Lakeside Ave. in Cleveland.

“Many people know the importance of regular dental care, but not everyone understands how undetected gum disease can result in chronic illness if left untreated. Many times, unresolved dental problems end with emergency department visits and are only treated with medicine,” said Dr. Roger Hess, Medworks Dental Director.

“Through the dental clinic, we can address the situation with free preventive and episodic dental care and then connect patients with ongoing treatment options.”

Medworks provides medical, dental, and vision services to those in need at clinics, and on an individual basis throughout the year. The clinic schedule for 2023 is available on its website.
