Bath Township Fire Department responds to kitchen fire

BATH TOWNSHIP — Bath Township Fire Department responded at 7:49 a.m. Sunday morning to a 911 report of a kitchen on fire at a residence located on Harding Highway in Lima.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke in the house and were advised by 911 operators that they were on the phone with an elderly, disabled woman who was in a second story bedroom and unable to exit on her own. Bath Township Fire Department personnel quickly located the woman and helped her get out of the house. She was transported to Mercy St. Rita’s by Perry Township EMS.

The small kitchen fire was extinguished with minimal damage to the residence. Two additional occupants were found to be asleep in the home and were able to exit with no injuries. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.

Chief Joseph Kitchen estimates the damage to be less than $1,000.

No fire department personnel were injured. Lima Fire Department and Perry Township EMS assisted at the scene of the fire.

The cause of the fire was determined to be cooking related and accidental.
