Red Cross asking for blood donations

LIMA — The American Red Cross is asking people to donate blood for World Blood Donor Day June 14.

In a press release, the organization said that it collected 26,000 fewer donations than it needed in May to meet the needs of patients.

Someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion every two seconds, according to the release, and platelet donors are especially needed.

Everyone who gives blood, platelets or plasma during the month of June will receive a $10 gift card to a merchant of their choice and be entered for a chance to win a backyard theater package. More details can be found on redcrossblood.org/june.
