Bike Safety Day in Wapak draws nearly 200 participants

WAPAKONETA — The 13th annual Bicycle Safety Day and bike rodeo was held on May 13 in Wapakoneta.

Nearly 200 children attend this year’s event, according to organizer Marlene Froning. Each participant received a fitted helmet and parents were shown the proper way to fit the helmets. The children were educated how to ride their bicycles correctly.

Those who attended the event received a ticket for the bicycle drawing to win a bicycle or win a ticket for The Toledo Mud Hens Game. Walmart donated 15 bicycles for the event.

The event is held annually in honor of Keith Froning, who lost his life in a bicycling accident. His mother said he would be proud of how the Wapakoneta community has responded to this event.

Anyone in need of a free bicycle helmet may contact Froning at 419-303-2692.
