More than $42 million in Ohio school safety grants allocated

COLUMBUS — A total of 624 schools throughout Ohio, including some in this region, were awarded a total of more than $42 million in safety grants Tuesday to help fund physical safety and security upgrades in their buildings, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Tuesday.

This was the fifth round of school safety grants awarded by the state, awarded as part of the K-12 School Safety Grant Program launched in 2021. The funding can help pay for upgrades like security cameras, public address systems, automated locks for doors, exterior lighting and visitor badging systems, according to a release from DeWine’s office. In total, the program has awarded $215 million to 2,789 schools in the state, according to the release.

Area schools included in this round of grants were:

• Delphos schools: $170,000 ($50,000 each for Franklin Elementary and Jefferson High schools and $70,000 for Jefferson Middle School)

• St. Rose Catholic School, Lima: $100,000

• St. Marys schools: $222,827 ($64,674 for Memorial High School, $79,700 for West Intermediate School and $79,453 for East Primary School)

• Kenton schools: $150,000 ($50,000 each for the elementary, middle and high schools)

• Columbus Grove schools: $40,444

• Ottawa-Glandorf schools: $65,556 ($32,778 each for Glandorf Elementary and Ottawa-Glandorf High School)

• Sts. Peter and Paul School, Ottawa: $54,399

• Ottoville schools: $200,000 ($100,000 each for the elementary and high schools)

• Kalida schools: $160,300 ($100,000 for the high school and $60,300 for the elementary school)

• Lincolnview schools: $200,000 ($100,000 each for the elementary and high schools)

The total allocations to each county over the course of the program were:

• Allen County: 44 grants totaling $3,316,616

• Auglaize County: 18 grants totaling $1,194,199

• Hardin County: 16 grants totaling $933,060

• Putnam County: 20 grants totaling $1,079,587

• Van Wert County: nine grants totaling $666,956
