Lima Senior to rename auditorium after local jazz legend

LIMA — A mural for Lima jazz legend Joe Henderson has already been created downtown, and on April 27, Lima schools will add another posthumous honor to add to Henderson’s legacy.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, Lima Senior High School will hold a dedication program to rename its auditorium after Henderson, a 1953 graduate of South High School. Along with speakers and a ribbon cutting, the event, which will be open to the public, will include a short concert by Lima Senior’s jazz band and a video salute from musician and Lima Senior alumnus Brandon Monford. A commemorative plaque as well as a painting of Henderson by the late artist Frederick J. Brown will be put on display outside the auditorium.

A scholarship opportunity in Henderson’s name will also be announced.
