Reminder on what to do if water pipes burst

LIMA — The City of Lima is reminding community members to be careful of water damage. Over the weekend, low temperatures in the area did cause some community members to experience frozen pipes in their homes.

“If you have frozen pipes in your residence and you are waiting for them to thaw out it will happen here in the next day or so because we will have above-freezing temperatures,” said City of Lima Utilities Director Michael Caprella. “There is a very good possibility those lines will break. They have sat there a long time and water does expand; this could split the pipe. If it does split the pipe and it thaws you are going to have a mess.”

Caprella reminded community members to shut off the water valve in their homes if the pipes burst as the frozen water melts over the weekend.
