WOCAP offers heating assistance

LIMA — The Ohio Department of Development and West Ohio Community Action Partnership are spreading the word that assistance with home energy bills is available.

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps Ohioans at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines pay their heating bills.

Ohioans also may be eligible fo the HEAP Winter Crisis Program, beginning Nov. 1 of this year.

Ohioans can visit energyhelp.ohio.gov to apply online, download a copy of the application or find contact information for a local Energy Assistance Provider. Individuals need copies of the following documents for their application: most recent utility bills, list of all household members, proof of income for the past 30 days, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency and proof of disability.

HEAP benefits are applied to an individual’s energy bill after Jan. 1. Applications must be received by March 31, 2023. The last day to apply is May 31, 2023.
