Semi loses control, drives into back yard in Van Wert County

VAN WERT — A man was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure after an accident Thursday afternoon in Van Wert County.

According to the Van Wert Fire Department, at about 2 p.m. a semi-truck hauling a 44,000-pound coil of steel was driving eastbound on U.S. Route 30. After crossing the Hoaglin Creek bridge, the truck crossed the right berm leaving the roadway, traveling through grass and a fence before coming to rest in a backyard at a residence on the corner of U.S. Route 30 and Richey Road, stopping a few feet from a propane tank.

Despite being uninjured, the driver, who was not identified, was transported to Van Wert Health. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
