Deer hunting season opens soon in Ohio

LIMA —The beginning of deer hunting season is here. Across the state of Ohio, deer archery season starts on Saturday, Sept. 24. Last season, more than 95,000 deer were taken with a bow. According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, bow hunting has increased in popularity. Archery season lasts until Feb. 5.

In the counties of Hardin, Marion and Wyandot, archery season opens in the Chronic Wasting Disease surveillance area on Sept. 10. Those counties will also have an early gun season from Oct. 8 to Oct. 10.

The deer gun season is held from Monday, Nov. 28 to Sunday, Dec. 4. There will be an additional weekend for the gun season on Dec. 17 and Dec. 18. Deer muzzleloader season will be held starting Saturday, Jan. 7 until Tuesday, Jan. 10. For hunters under the age of 18, firearms hunting is open for one weekend on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20.
