WAPAKONETA — The Auglaize County Commissioners, acting upon the recommendation of their engineering consultant, on Tuesday awarded a bid for infrastructure improvements in the village of Buckland that came in well below the estimated cost.

The low bid of Shinn Bros. of Celina in the amount of $596,000 was accepted by the commissioners after consultation with project manager Ryan Lefeld of Choice One Engineering.

Other bids for the project were submitted by All Purpose Contracting Inc. of Delphos, $630,074.40; Hohenbrink Excavating LLC of Ottawa, $611,130.88; PAB Construction Co. of Coldwater, $722,571.40; and Tom’s Construction of St. Henry, $628,014.

The estimated cost for the project to address various village improvements was set at $845,000.

The project includes the installation of curbs and sidewalks on the east side of Main Street and along Cemetery and Buckland River roads. A parking lot on the north and south sides of Cemetery Road will be resurfaced and a new basketball court will be installed at the village park.

Flooding and drainage improvements are included in the project.

Funding for the Buckland improvements will come in part from a 2021 Community Development Block Grant through the Neighborhood Revitalization Grant program. The village of Buckland will contribute up to $102,700.
