Apollo board talks tax renewal levy

It was an ordinary August board meeting at Apollo. Things are beginning to get fully underway at the Apollo Career Center. Classes for students, both high school and adults, have begun this week.

Funds from tax collections have been coming into the treasurer’s office. There have been very preliminary talks about a new building project at Apollo in the near future. The fact that Apollo will have a tax renewal levy on the November ballot was also briefly discussed.

The Apollo Career Center has a 0.19 mill renewal levy on the ballot Nov. 8 for maintenance expenses. The first renewal request was approved by voters in 2013. It will bring in $416,000 each year. The levy will extend for 10 years. The monies generated by this levy can only be used for maintenance of the current facility including HVAC systems, roofing, windows, and other equipment. No salaries or benefits can be paid from this levy.

After some discussion about various topics related to individual schools represented by the Apollo board members, the board voted to adjourn.
