Sweet and Savory Shanty offer baked goods

ALLEN COUNTY — Jennifer Albertson-Rope had been baking at home. Now she bakes at Sweet and Savory Shanty at 3031 Harding Highway.

The building was acquired and remodeled during the pandemic. The business has been open for about a year and a half. But Friday morning was the time for the official grand opening.

“This is something that I’ve always done. I started out at Clyde Evans grocery store. While I was in college to be a teacher I was working in a bakery. I grew up in a family of confectionery artists. When I went to work at Clyde’s I did the cakes there and fell in love with it. I decided to go to the Wilton School of Cake Decorating and Confectionery Arts in Chicago, Illinois to perfect my skills. I’ve always done this as a side hustle. I recently retired from education and decided to make this a full time gig.”

Albertson-Rope says that they specialize in custom cakes wedding, birthday or other occasions. Customers wanted a place to shop for goods on the east side of Lima. Sensing a need and hearing the calls, Albertson-Rope decided to open a brick-and-mortar store. Individual cookies, cake slices, and cupcakes can be found for purchase alongside brownies, cupcakes and turnovers. Also offered are “Sweet Packs” which contain 24 servings of assorted goodies. Order your sweet and savory items at 567-825-1619.
