LIMA — Coach Roderick Simpson of the Striders Track Club presented Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith with a medal as a token of appreciation for being a role model during Smith’s regular media briefing Wednesday.
“I truly appreciate this,” Smith said. “I appreciate your dedication to the children.”
Coach Simpson, alongside Coach Chris Jackson, coaches junior Olympians in track and field. The Striders Track Club runs year long and helps young athletes to train and compete.
The Striders Track Club has coached 25 national champions and 20 all-Americans. The program is based in Allen County, but they have had athletes from other cities participate.
