Tribute to Gene Frankhart

7:30 p.m. Friday

Limaland Motorsports Park will host a tribute to Gene Frankhart. The pits open at 4:30 p.m., gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps start at 6:30 p.m., and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.

‘Life in America: 1875-1900’

1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Experience life from the late 19th century at the Allen County Museum. Gain new knowledge about Thomas Edison and the phonograph or find out why the discovery of oil in Lima was so important to the development of the city. Listen to period music throughout the day by the Lima Area Concert Band, Charles Cheuvront and Warren Bowery. Meet and talk with actors playing characters from the past, including Lucy Webb Hayes, Annie Oakley and Susan B. Anthony. Go back in time to visit with patrons dressed for opening night at the Faurot Opera House. Hands-on activities include churning butter and learning how Fannie Farmer changed cooking. Guests can also play period games outside or make period crafts in the Children’s Discovery Center. Finally, learn about the language of flowers. During this two-day special event, patrons can visit the MacDonell House for free. Visitors are also invited to tour the temporary exhibit, ‘The Ohio Presidents: Surprising Legacies.’ While the event is free to the public, donations are encouraged.

‘Ride to Remember’

7 a.m. Saturday

The Bluffton Lions Foundation will host its eighth annual 100-mile ride. When riders check-in at Bluffton Family Recreation, 215 Snider Road in Bluffton, they will receive maps for three route options, the 11-mile Fun Loop, the 37-mile Ada Loop and the 63-mile Main Loop with cut-offs for 23, 46 and 56 miles. Routes are on scenic, flat, paved roads and feature points of interest such as the Bluffton University Nature Preserve, Schumacher Swiss Homestead, and the villages of Ada, Lafayette, Gilboa, Pandora, Rockport and Rawson. Proceeds from the ride will benefit the Bluffton Pathways Project. Pre-registration costs are $25 (adults), $15 (14 and under), plus $20 for a T-shirt. 6 p.m. Tuesday

Take a photographic journey back in time to Bluffton’s pioneer days at the Bluffton Public Library, 145 S. Main St., Bluffton. Photographs shot by Will Triplett date from 1880 to 1910 and include buildings that no longer exist and depict a variety of professions from the era (blacksmiths, barbers, hotel owners, oil drillers and teachers) as well as period modes of transportation (steam locomotives, electric trolleys, and views of Main Street before the automobile). Space is limited, so registration in advance is required.
