ODNR continues Indian Lake cleanup

LAKEVIEW — Aquatic harvesters have removed 5,000 cubic yards of vegetation outside of South Bank, Pew Island and Old Field Beach at Indian Lake, part of an Ohio Department of Natural Resources cleanup effort that started in June.

The agency on Wednesday said 2,700 cubic yards of sediment have been removed from the nature preserve area, while vegetation piles have been moved to dump sites.

Another harvester should begin operation this week.

ODNR plans additional harvesting from Lakeview Harbor near the beaches as well as at the west and south banks ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

Residents may deposit aquatic vegetation removed from private docks at drop-off sites by Moundwood Marina, located off of state Route 368 on the east side of Moundwood Boat Ramp entrance, or the helipad parking lot on the southeast corner.

Residents who choose to hire private aquatic sprayers or harvesters may choose between companies approved by the ODNR. Approved companies include Aqua Doc and Aquatics Plus Pond Management for spraying and Burrey Aquatic Restoration and Shoreline Construction for harvesting.
