Giving is a beautiful thing

LIMA — The Ahl family hosted its 29th annual Easter Dinner at the Wingate Hotel in downtown Lima adjacent to the Civic Center. Six hundred bags of food were delivered to individuals in cars lined up from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 16. The dinner package included chicken, noodles, chicken broth, green beans, mashed potatoes and rolls.

“We’re excited to celebrate Jesus’s resurrection by giving away food for a meal. I’m here handing out tickets to the concert on Thursday night, ‘We are Messengers,’ that the The Civic Center Foundation is giving away. The Gideons are also giving Bibles out. We want to proclaim that ‘He is risen!’” said Tom Ahl.

The ‘We are Messengers’ concert, a Food for the Hungry presentation sponsored by the Tom Ahl Family of Dealerships, will be performing at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center, 7 Town Square, Lima. Box Office tickets range from $15 to $30 each.

“We are here today to serve the community and give food to those in need and anyone who is interested in coming out and having a great Easter. Tom enjoys serving the community, and he’s been doing the Easter dinner for many years. People can enjoy the food with their families on Sunday and cook at home,” said Jennifer Griffith, the marketing manager at Tom Ahl Family of Dealerships who helped distribute the dinners.

“Tom Ahl is a very wonderful person. I’m from Ghana. He brought me in and give me work. He extended his hands, not only to me, but to my whole family. Even though I don’t work there anymore, he’s always been a good supporter. And what a day to give back to the community. This is a day that God gave himself for all us, sending a message of hope. For most people, it begins with what to eat for the day. I’m privileged to be part of what’s all going on,” said Edward Eaghan, a former employee who turned out to today’s event to help distribute food.

Eaghan explained the effort is one the community both needs and appreciates.

“The response has been awesome. The people who pull in, they have a sense of gratitude,” Eaghan said. “What a beautiful thing when you give and people receive it with a good heart.”
