Timken visits Ottawa after officer’s funeral

OTTAWA — Jane Timken’s campaign for the Republican nomination for the seat being vacated by Sen. Rob Portman after this year made a stop in Ottawa on Saturday.

Flanked by former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik, Timken visited the area following Friday’s funeral for slain Bluffton police officer Dominic Francis.

Timken said she spent time talking to county sheriffs, did police ride-alongs, and has been hosting “Back the Blue” rallies for over a year.

“I a mom on a mission to take our country back and fight for American jobs, border security, and parents’ rights in education. A large part of my conversation in this race for the Senate is the safety and security of our communities and backing the men and women in blue,” said Timken.

“One of the reasons I came to Ottawa was because of officers like Dominic Francis who gave up his life trying to apprehend a suspect. We had a moment of silence and prayed for him and his family,” Timken added.

Timken’s show of support for law enforcement is backed by her many years as a lawyer and the example set by her father, who also practiced law.

“I was honored to be his daughter. As a little girl my dad used to take me aside and teach me to say ‘I disagree,’ to stand up for myself. As a law professor he not only taught the Socratic method to his law students, but he practiced that on his kids. I’m very grateful to have a father who wanted me to have a voice, to speak up, and to speak out for other people,” said Timken.

Timken says her position on police and crime differs from her opponents in the Senate primary because she is the only one out doing “Back the Blue” rallies.

Timken said, “There are a lot of talkers in this race, but I’m the doer. As President Trump’s hand-picked Party Chair, I fought in the trenches for the America First policies that were working for this country over the last five years, and I’m taking that same conservative fight to the Senate. Other candidates are in this race for themselves. I’m in this race for Ohioans.”

Timken has obtained several county sheriff endorsements, including Allen County Sheriff Matt Treglia.

Others who have endorsed Timken include: Putnam County GOP Chair Tony Schroeder and Vice Chair Tom Liebrecht; Allen County GOP Chair Keith Cheney and Allen County Commissioners Cory Noonan, Brian Winegardner, and Beth Seibert; and Senator Rob Portman, who endorsed Timken to fill his seat.
