New career mentor program in Lima needs volunteers

LIMA — A new program at Lima Senior will connect professional mentors with 10th-grade students of color and girls to provide career guidance and support through the student’s high school career.

The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce is seeking professionals willing to work as mentors for at least five minutes per week via phone call, text or in-person meeting with their mentee. Mentors will work with their mentees for three years, or until the student’s senior year.

Forty-six women and 161 professionals of color are needed to start. Mentors will be required to undergo background checks and complete two hours of training.
