Teen in court for providing fatal drugs

LIMA — A 19-year-old Lima woman charged with a second-degree felony for providing drugs that prosecutors say led to the death of Dino Gerdeman last week in a Lima motel waived her right to a preliminary hearing during a brief appearance Wednesday in Lima Municipal Court.

Bond was reduced to $100,000 for Kea’Londa Peoples-Fuqua, who has been charged with corrupting another with drugs. The case was bound over to Allen County Common Pleas Court.

According to Detective Brian Snyder of the Lima Police Department, officers responded shortly after midnight Wednesday to Room 252 at the Travelodge motel, 805 S. Leonard Ave., in reference to a female causing a disturbance.

Upon their arrival, police located several individuals inside the room along with a deceased male, identified as Dino Gerdeman, 59. Gerdeman’s death appeared suspicious in nature, and an investigation was launched, Snyder said. Several leads were followed which eventually resulted in Peoples-Fuqua being taken into custody.

Her attorney on Wednesday described his client as an employee of Gerdeman.

According to Kenneth Rexford, as an employee, Peoples-Fuqua “was instructed to do multiple tasks” for Gerdeman, including the procurement of drugs.

Magistrate John Payne, who presided over Wednesday’s hearing, agreed with Rexford’s request to lower the teenager’s bond from $200,000. Peoples-Fuqua was reeturned to the Allen County jail following the hearing.
