Lima man, 43, jailed in stabbing death of his mother

LIMA — A Lima man was jailed on suspicion of murder Wednesday in the stabbing death of his mother.

According to Lima police, officers were dispatched shortly after 10:30 a.m. to 908 E. Kibby St. in reference to an unresponsive female. Upon their arrival, officers located Rachel Cheney, 71, in a bedroom in the residence. Cheney was found to be deceased, with the cause of death identified as a stab wound to her upper torso.

Her son, Joseph Cheney, 43, also of the East Kibby Street address, was determined to be a person of interest in the investigation and taken into custody without incident. The younger Cheney was charged with suspicion of murder and was taken to the Allen County jail.
