Online car buying just got speedier in Lima

LIMA — No pressure, no fast talking, no manager or back rooms. Next-day delivery.

If it sounds like a sales pitch, it is. But it’s one a Phoenix-based firm that specializes in the online sale of used vehicles believes will prove appealing to residents in and around Lima.

Carvana allows consumers who are in search of a used vehicle to browse its database of 20,000 cars and trucks, take a virtual tour of the vehicle’s features and obtain financing — all from the comfort of their home and in some cases in less than an hour. The company today unveiled a list of 100 U.S. cities in which online car-buying and “touchless delivery” will now be be even more efficient.

Lima is one of three Ohio cities, along with Mansfield and Springfield, where “as-soon-as-next-day delivery” of vehicles purchased from Carvana.com is now available.

“Exact delivery dates depend on where the vehicle is located in our national inventory and how quickly our logistics team can transport a vehicle to a customer’s doorstep,” said Amy O’Hara, a communications representative for Carvana. “In many cases it happens very quickly. Every vehicle order is unique.”

Carvana was founded seven years ago with a mission to change the way people buy cars. As stay-at-home orders and social distancing mandates associated with COVID-19 have introduced consumers to a new “normal,” Carvana is touting the ultimate in socially-distant purchasing.

“We know that many consumers are spending more time at home and balancing that with the need to keep moving. For many, that includes the need to buy or sell a car, and often their options are limited,” Ernie Garcia, Carvana founder and CEO, said in a prepared statement. “That’s why we are bringing touchless home delivery to even more consumers and launching 100 markets.”

O’Hara said every Carvana vehicle undergoes a rigorous 150-point inspection, has no frame damage and has never been in a reported accident.

“All vehicles come with a seven-day return policy, giving Lima customers the peace of mind and time to ensure their vehicle fits their life. On the sixth day, we call every customer to check in, answer any questions and confirm the vehicle is the one for you. If it’s not, you can swap it for another vehicle on the site or you can return it outright,” said the company spokeswoman.

Trade-ins are accepted, although Carvana’s website cites a “haggle-free experience (and) does not price-match or negotiate” on trade-in values.

If consumers would rather pick up a vehicle than have it delivered, they can visit one of two dozen Carvana Vending Machine locations across the county — the closest of which is in Indianapolis.
