LPD officer arrested, released in restraining order mix-up

LIMA — A Lima police officer was erroneously arrested last week but cleared of all charges hours later in an apparent mix-up surrounding a domestic incident and a no-contact order involving his estranged wife.

Deputies with the Allen County Sheriff’s Office arrested LPD Patrolman Christopher Lemke at work in the early morning hours of Thursday after his wife, Latosha, reported her husband had called and texted her several times the previous day in violation of a court-approved protection order.

Christopher Lemke was not on duty when the contacts were made, according to a statement issued Monday by the sheriff’s office.

The protection order was related to domestic violence and assault charges Lemke filed against his wife on Dec. 14. The order names Christopher Lemke as the alleged victim and Latosha Lemke as the alleged defendant. The protection order bars all contact between the two parties and specifically states “Defendant shall not initiate or have any contact with the protected person.”

Deputies originally determined Christopher Lemke violated the protection order and arrested him on related charges. He was booked into the Allen County jail at approximately 2 a.m. Thursday. Later that morning, Lima Municipal Court prosecutors determined Lemke had done nothing to violate the terms of his protection order due his status in that order as the victim.

The charges were dismissed, and Lemke was released from jail.
