Bradfield Center donations bring holiday cheer to seniors at Lost Creek Care Center

LIMA — It was foggy and dreary outside Tuesday morning, but members of the Bradfield Community Association packaged up some Christmas Eve sunshine and brought it indoors for residents of the Lost Creek Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center to enjoy.

Volunteers from Bradfield Center arrived at the nursing home shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday, armed with gifts for each of the home’s 45 residents. The goodies represented items donated by members of the community as well as corporate donors P&G, Walgreens, Old Navy and the Lima Senior High School Head Start program.

Gifts for the senior citizens ranged from slippers and socks to blankets and hygiene products. Theresa Lasenby, director of social services and admissions at the Lost Creek facility, said each of the donations will have a dramatic impact on the residents.

Lasenby was grateful for the kindness shown by the Bradfield Center volunteers and all the other individuals and businesses in the area who have kept the seniors in their thoughts this holiday season.

“We had one woman who just stopped in randomly and said she wanted to be the Secret Santa for one of our residents that did not have family members or visitors,” Lasenby said. “Marimor Industries did the same thing. The Salvation Army has pitched in, and now Bradfield Center is bringing gifts for each resident. It means a lot to the residents.”

Kesha Drake, executive director of the Bradfield Community Association. said the center’s efforts in past years have primarily been focused on helping underprivileged children in the community.

“This year we decided to do something to make sure our senior citizens are taken care of,” Drake said. “This is the first time we’ve done this, but we want to make it an annual event. But we couldn’t have done it without the help of the Lima community.”
