Dangerous strain of illicit drugs shows up in Mercer County

CELINA — Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey is encouraging law enforcement officers and other individuals, including drug users, to use extreme caution due to an influx of potentially dangerous and life-threatening drugs that have been found in the area recently.

Gray said recent lab testing of a substance believed to be heroin actually contained tramadol, cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and carfentanil, as well as acetyl fentanyl and other drugs.

These drugs are incredibly dangerous and can be fatal when ingested or when absorbed through the skin, Gray said. Law enforcement, corrections staff, EMS, fire and hospital staff and other first responders are being warned to use extreme caution in dealing with any suspected drug or drug paraphernalia, the sheriff said.
