OTTAWA — Putnam County YMCA has a new 24/7 fitness center to accommodate members 18 and older who want to work out when the regular YMCA is not open.
YMCA and Mercy Health officials gathered Friday at the new facility to celebrate a ribbon cutting and grand opening of the center.
The Y and Mercy Health partnered to bring renovations and the 24/7 access center to the Y at 101 Putnam Parkway in Ottawa.
The room features cameras for security, new equipment and Wi-Fi coverage for members and guests at the YMCA, according to Aaron Baumgartner, Putnam County YMCA CEO.
Equipment includes six treadmills, five new elliptical machines, a brand new Jacob’s Ladder unit and five bikes and rowing machine. There also is an indoor walking track with 32 laps equalling a mile that is around the equipment and weights and weight machines that can be used 24/7.
“We have been hearing from our members for a long time they wanted more access to our fitness room,” Baumgartner said. “It came down to funding and with our partnership with Mercy Health we share a similar mission statement about improving our communities.”
He said providing a 24/7 fitness center gives adults who work varying hours more options to work out. Those who purchase the key fob to use the 24/7 center also will be able to use the locker rooms.
Mercy Health donated a portion of the funding for the room and 24/7 center access. The room was previously a fitness center and the equipment was refreshed for the new 24/7 fitness center.
He explained members 18 and older pay $10 and will receive a fob at the front desk at the facility that will get them in when the Y is not open for its regular hours. The YMCA’s regular hours are 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Members who purchase the fob can also use the fob during regular hours.
Ronda Lehman, president of the Mercy Health Lima Market, said Putnam County is important to the hospital as a region and values the ways the county has supported the hospital.
“When we look at promoting community wellness and future of wellness we recognize YMCAs as being able to support the 24 hour accessibility and respond to what consumers need,” Lehman said.
Patty Giesken, director of imaging services for Mercy Health and a Glandorf resident, said her family was one of the first members of the Putnam County YMCA in 1993.
“This all started with a group of dedicated people who worked together to serve the purpose in the community both mind, body and spirit,” Giesken said.
