Contested races in Jackson, Auglaize townships

HARROD — Jackson and Auglaize Township residents will be voting for new township trustees this year.

Outgoing Auglaize Township trustee and vice chairman Jon Parker is not seeking reelection this term, but there are two candidates vying for Parker’s seat: Joe Fetter, of Waynesfield, and Rusty Winegardner, of Harrod.

Over in Jackson Township, Tommy Agler is challenging incumbent James Shilling, who is seeking a second term as township trustee.

Shilling was appointed to replace former trustee Ted Smith halfway through Smith’s four-year term.

Shilling told The Lima News his primary aim has been ridding township properties of abandoned vehicles, but the new trustee admits he’s encountered resistance.

“Cleaning up the township was the goal,” he said, “but it’s been a struggle. I’m not done. I’ll keep pushing until I can’t push no more.”

The Lima News was unable to reach Agler, Fetter or Winegardner for comment.
