LIMA — Lima’s building department will continue to examine the damage done to a downtown Lima motel Wednesday morning.
At approximately 8 a.m., about half of the metal roof on the Royal Inn, 418 W. Market St., was blown into an alley between the motel and a vacant building on West Market Street. A portion of the roof also landed on top of a vehicle on South Pierce Street.
As of late Wednesday afternoon, no evacuations were ordered of the motel, although the desk clerk says some people had checked out and were issued refunds.
The metal roof had been constructed over an existing flat roof.
The City of Lima Building and Zoning Department will be looking at if the roof was installed properly and if the remaining metal roof is structurally sound.

J Swygart | The Lima News Gusting winds ripped the roof off a downtown building Wednesday morning, depositing the roof nearly intact in the middle of North Pierce Street, near the intersection of Market Street. A man who said he was the owner of the building at 111 N. Pierce St. that formerly housed Power Block Motors said the incident happened around 8 a.m.
